Southern Railroad Station on West Trade Street c. 1898

This photograph is not an original; it is from a loose page in a catalog. Students arriving to stay at Charlotte Female Institute or at Presbyterian College for Women would have seen this view as they departed the train on their way to the institution.  The College and Ninth Street location was very close to the train station. One story in our memorabilia files states that Union soldiers could see the Charlotte Female Institute as they passed through Charlotte on the Train.
