Miss Rena Chambers Harrell, 1953

Miss Rena Harrell was an alumnae of the College. She began her career with the college in 1919 and soon became the first librarian. She retired in 1956. In this picture Miss Harrell is on her way to the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.  The Alpha Kappa Gamma leadership fraternity, students, alumnae, and friend raised the money to send her to London for the Coronation.  Miss Harrell was an avid Anglophile and was instrumental in obtaining the gift of the King's Bible from King George VI in 1950.  She took care of the Bible and put it on display for special occasions.
