Burwell Hall, c. 1919

Originally, the parlors in Burwell were the Phi Delta and Gamma Sigma Society Halls. These literary societies had been organized in 1897 and existed a number of years. All of the students belonged to one of them and had to go through initiation into the society. According to the original blue prints, the Society Halls were on either side of the central reception hall.
