Student Email Accounts

All Queens students will be receiving new student email accounts of the form Firstname.Lastname@Qmail.queens.edu. It won’t be necessary to sign up for an account as they will be created for and distributed to you.

This new QMail address will be your new official Queens student email account.  Qmail accounts are web-based and provide a full feature set. With QMail you can access your campus email from any supported web browser (listed below).  It's easy to use and very convenient since you can use QMail from any Internet connected PC.  Functionality includes:

  • Personal Address Book
  • Personalized Signature
  • Autoforwarding
  • Autoresponse and Vacation Message
  • Antivirus Protection
  • Tasklisting

Browsers supported by QMail are:

  • Internet Explorer 5.5 and higher
  • Mozilla Firefox 1.7 and higher
  • Safari on the MAC will be supported after the new year.

All official electronic communication from the University will go to your new QMail address - so it is critical that you regularly monitor the account.  You will hear more about the official use of the e-mail address in the coming months - but we are very excited about some new initiatives coming your way to make your life at Queens easier and more accessible.

What About My Imail Account?
Your new student QMail account will replace the IMail account you are currently using.  E-Mail access will still be web-based and you will access your account in a manner similar to how you access your current IMail account.  QMail will function the same as the IMail system so you will not have to learn a new system.

If necessary, you will be able to keep your current IMail account for a period of time but, once assigned, you should begin using your new QMail account as your “official” Queens student email account.

You will need to notify friends and contacts of your new e-mail address and re-establish any important contacts, calendar entries etc into your new QMail account.  You will need to forward any important e-mails from your IMail account to your new QMail account as there is not a method of copying this information in bulk from one account to the other.  You will be given time to move this information to your new account.  Then, at a later date, you will receive notification of the date upon which your IMail account will expire and be inaccessible.
