Safe-Connect Gateway

The Queens Safe-Connect Gateway solution enables the university to ensure that computers connecting to the university's residential network meet minimum security requirements such as anti-virus and Microsoft security patches.  Viruses, spyware and malicious code that exploit operating system security vulnerabilities are kept to a minimum.  Computer performance is frequently improved.  The result is a faster, more secure and reliable network which benefits everyone.  For more detailed information please refer to Queens Safe-Connect Information Sheet or the Residence Hall Internet FAQ.

When PC users first connect to the Queens Residential network via ethernet (wired connection between the computer and wall port), they will be prompted with a page asking them to read the university's Acceptable Use Policy and download the Safe-Connect software onto their machine.  Installing this software, called a Policy Key is required in order to access the Internet from the Queens residential network.

  1. When prompted, save the SafeConnect software to your desktop.
  2. The software should run automatically. If not, double-click the icon on your desktop.
  3. SafeConnect will now inform you if your computer does not meet minimum security requirements, and what steps you must take
