Residence Hall Connectivity

South Residence |

Belk Residence |
All residence halls have study rooms with computers connected to the campus network and the global internet. Printers are also available in most residence hall study rooms.
Residence hall RA's are responsible for checking computing equipment in study rooms to ensure it is working properly. Problems are to be reported by RA's to I.T. Services for repair. Printing supplies such as paper and toner are to be stocked by RA's.
Room network access is available for students with computers in all residence halls.
Students that wish to install wireless access points in residence halls will need to request permission from I.T. Services (except Wallace Hall residence) and enable security features on the devices if installation is approved. I.T. Services can activate a maximum of two network jacks per double-occupancy room and one network jack per single-occupancy room.Students will need to provide a computer with an Ethernet network adapter and a suitable Ethernet cable with RJ-45 connectors. All network connections are 100 Mb Ethernet.
Internet Access is provided to Wallace Residence Hall via DSL connectivity provided by Time Warner's high speed Road Runner service. This is why permission for wireless devices is not required in that Residence Hall. Technical support issues for Internet connections with Wallace Residence Hall rooms ins provided by Road Runner Business Class. Technical support contact information is available from the Wallace Residence Coordinator.
I.T. Services will assist students as time and manpower allow by:
- Providing recommendations on the purchase of compatible hardware and/or software.
- Providing instructions and guidance for loading network drivers and protocols.
- (As scheduling of resources allow) Providing students with preliminary problem diagnoses that may assist in resolving problems they have using the supplied network connection.
Students are responsible for maintaining their own computer equipment. I.T. Services is not equipped to physically repair, upgrade or work on student owned computer systems and can only provide the above listed support for Microsoft Windows based systems. Licensing of software installed on student owned computer systems is the responsibility of the student.
