Troubleshooting Dorm Internet Connections

Wallace Dorm

If you are not able to get Internet connectivity in the Wallace Dorm, please start by checking the following:
(Note: Please see picture below for a visual documentation of the proper wiring of devices.)

• Verify power on the Zyxel P841 DSL modem. A green LED light should glow if the unit is receiving power.
• If unit does not have power, make sure that the device is plugged into a power outlet and that the ON/OFF switch on the back is turned to ON
• Once power is confirmed, verify that the VDSL light on the front of the unit is glowing.
• If the VDSL light is not on, make sure that one end of the RJ11 telephone cord is plugged into the VDSL port on the back of the unit and that the other end is plugged in the telephone jack on the wall.
• Also verify that the other RJ11 telephone cord is plugged into the telephone port on the back of the unit and that the other end is plugged into the actual telephone if you have a telephone connected to it.
• Verify power on the D-Link DES-1105 Ethernet Switch.  A green LED light should glow if the unit is receiving power.
• If unit does not have power, make sure that the device is plugged into a power outlet.
• If all the above has been confirmed, and there still is no Internet Connectivity, reboot all Devices.
• Turn off your computer.
• Unplug the power to the D-Link.
• Unplug the power to the Zyxel P841 DSL modem.
• Leave the devices off for at least 10 seconds.
• Plug the power to the Zyxel P841 DSL modem back in and turn on the device.
• Plug the power to the D-Link back in and make sure device powers up.
• Turn on your computer.
• Test for Internet connection.
