WebBoard Conferencing

WebBoard, web forums and chat
software, is a versatile web-based tool that provides communication
solutions for a wide range of applications. WebBoard can be
used as a powerful means for fostering communication and
initiating discussion for academic class use as well as
administrative support areas.
Users find WebBoard's browser-based
interface easy to understand and navigate. For those who prefer,
WebBoard also allows participation through email or newsreaders.
With email participation, new messages come directly to the user's
email client. Users can then respond by email, or log into the
WebBoard simply by clicking on a link in the email. Email
participation is ideal for project management, where team members
share information. Entire discussions can be held via email without
logging onto the board, but the threaded discussion will be stored
in its entirety on the WebBoard for later reference.
I.T. Services can initiate a Webboard for
faculty or staff use. Most boards are open to all, however a
private secured board requiring login and a password can also
be setup. To request a WebBoard, email helpdesk@queens.edu.

Understanding WebBoard
Terminology |
What do we mean when we talk about WebBoard? Here's a
brief explanation of some common WebBoard terms.
What is a Board? A board is the top-level hierarchy in
WebBoard. Also referred to as a Forum, the board is
framework for conferences and chat rooms within your
community. As separate content holders, each board can greet
the user with a distinct look and feel. Each board can also
serve a specific set of users and use different types of
authentication. Conferences are
the next level in the WebBoard hierarchy and are made up of
topics and responses. Each board can have from one to an
unlimited number of conferences. A conference establishes the
main subject matter that users should focus on when they post
new topics and messages. For example, a project development
board might have conferences on Product Timeline, Design,
Developers Notes, Quality Assurance, and more.
A Topic is the
first Message or Post in a thread of discussion
within a conference. Unlike Boards and Conferences, topics are
generally posted by users, rather than managers or
administrators. Other users will then continue the discussion
by posting responses or comments to the topic, creating a
thread of discussion.
What is a WebBoard
User? Users are the members of your WebBoard
communities, the participants in your boards or forums. A user
may read and post messages and participate in chat rooms.
Users have many options as to how they choose to participate
in your forums, by logging on to your board, using a
newsreader, or posting and reading messages via email. In most
WebBoard forums, users are the primary generators of
content. |
