Why can't I open a Word/Access/Excel/PowerPoint document that someone sent me |
| |
There are many different versions of these programs and not all are compatible with each other. It is possible that you either do not have the appropriate software installed on your workstation or that you have a version installed that is incompatible with the file type that was sent to you. In some cases a piece of converter or viewer software may solve the problem. With other programs like MS Access you may just be out of luck. Upgrading your software may be your only option. If at all possible try to keep in mind the versions of software used by those you share files with. For more detailed information on the file sharing capabilities of different versions refer to the following links or contact IT Services: http://www.microsoft.com/office/deployment/ConvFile.doc http://www.microsoft.com/office/deployment/FileShar.doc |

My computer is running very slow. What should I check? |
| |
Check how much free space is remaining on your C: drive by right-clicking on the C: drive icon and looking at Properties. When the amount of free space falls below 100 MB performance slows dramatically. Run the Disk Defragmenter under Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. Defragging the hard drive may improve performance somewhat. If you are running resource intensive applications and your system has only a moderate amount of memory, performance will also be slow. It may be time for a PC upgrade. |
