Students FAQs
Will IT Services work on or fix my personal computer?
  No. Queens IT Services will assist students as time and manpower allow by: Providing recommendations on the purchase of compatible hardware and/or software. Providing instructions and guidance for loading network drivers and protocols. Providing students with preliminary problem diagnoses that may assist in resolving problems they have using the supplied network connection. Students are responsible for maintaining their own computer equipment. IT Services is not equipped to physically repair, upgrade or work on student owned computer systems
I have my PC in my residence hall room configured as you described but I still can't get the the Internet?
  Call IT Services at x2323. We will verify the wiring to your room and try to diagnose the problem. Before calling please note which wall data jack you are using. It may be labeled A, B or C.

Students in Wallace have Internet provided by Time Warner DSL modems. Wallace residents should:
  • Perform the basic troubleshooting steps on the troubleshooting guide that can be obtained from the RC or from IT Services
  • Contact IT Services to assist in problem evaluation
  • It may become necesary for you (or IT Services on your behalf) to contact Road Runner Business Class for support at 1-8666-536-7676. If so, be sure to provide them the Hotel ID #: 3-000073. Before contacting Road Runner please
  • What do I need to connect to the Internet from my personal computer in my South, Hayes or Belk residence hall room?
      Your computer needs 1. A 10 Mb or 10/100 Mb RJ-45 ethernet network adapter. 2. A catgory 5 RJ-45 ethernet cable long enough to go from your computer to the network jack in the wall. 3. The TCP/IP protocol installed and set to use DHCP. See the following page for further information
    Can my email account be revoked?
      Mis-use of your account may result in revocation, depending upon circumstances.
    I forgot my IMail password. What do I do.
      Contact the IT Services Help Desk at x2323. We will issue you a new one.
    How do I change my IMail password?
      Click on the drop-down menu in the top right hand cornder labeled Account Options within your IMail account homepage, select Change Password. 
    How do I get a Queens email account?
      Student email accounts will be cdistributed to students in August.
    The printer in our dorm PC lounge is out of ink/toner or paper. Who do I notify to get it replaced?
      Notify your Residence Coordinator. They will ensure it is replaced or stocked. IT Services does not stock toner cartridges or paper for these areas.
    A computer in the Residence Hall PC lounge is not working right. Whom do I call.
      Call IT Services at x2323. IT Services maintains the hardware and software for these machines.
    Where are computers that I can use located on campus?
      1. DKSN Lab in the basement of Walker Science has 20 workstations.

    2. Belk, Hayes, Albright, South and Wallace residence halls all have computer lounges.

    3. Everett Library has public access computers on both floors that can be used for research.

    4. Hayes, South, Belk and Albright residince halls as well as Everett Library are wired so student PCs or laptops can access the internet if properly equipped. Wallace residence hall as Internet access to each room via DSL modems which are provided by Time Warner's high speed Road Runner service.

    Other labs available for specific purposes include the Language Lab (in Everett), the Writing Lab (in McEwen), the Nursing Lab (at the 5th Street Presbyterian School of Nursing campus), The Education Lab (in Everett) and the Psychology Lab (in McEwen).
