Email Policy
Electronic Mail or e-mail is defined as any technology used to transfer messages. Queens University of Charlotte’s e-mail system is to be used only in support of educational, research and administrative mission and be in conformity with the Acceptable Use Policy, and compliant with all applicable law.
Users have a responsibility to use this resource in an efficient, effective, ethical, and lawful manner. E-mail communications should follow the same standards expected in written business communications and public meetings. Violation of this policy may result in disciplinary action, including possible termination or legal action.
All network and e-mail accounts maintained on Queens University of Charlotte computing systems are the sole property of Queens University of Charlotte. The University has the right to monitor any e-mail account for legitimate business reasons. Reasons for review include, but are not limited to: reasonable suspicion of a violation of a rule or law or University policy; investigation of system problems; litigation or anticipated litigation; or a need to perform work when an employee is not available. To the greatest extent possible in a public setting individuals' privacy should be preserved. However, there should be no expectation of privacy or confidentiality for documents and messages stored on University-owned equipment.
Users of the University's e-mail system must understand that most communications created, received or backed-up on the system are considered to be public documents and thus, may be subject to requests for public disclosure. Employees should bear in mind that this construction may apply even to e-mails that contain, for example, personal remarks.
