BASIC Environmental Education Web sites from EPA's Internet NewsBrief

EPA's Office of Environmental Education http://www.epa.gov/enviroed/
The EPA established the Office of Environmental Education (OEE) to provide national leadership to increase environmental literacy. Learn about the grant programs supporting environmental education projects and how to apply for them, about training programs for educators, and about undergraduate and graduate student fellowship programs. The Resources section of this site provides access to information on guidelines, funding, regional contacts and a catalog of educational materials. Look at the Recognition Awards section to find information on the President's Environmental Youth Award. The Youth Opportunities page presents the National Network for Environmental Management Studies (NNEMS), which encourages college students to pursue environmental careers.

Bureau of Land Management - Environmental Education http://www.blm.gov/education/ The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Environmental Education Program endeavors to realize healthier public lands by educating citizens who are willing to participate in solving complex environmental problems. The program works with local chapters and organizations and includes a school-based component involving curriculums, guides as well as living classrooms at local watersheds. There is also a public education and participation component which is comprised mostly of the Volunteer Program as well as traditional classroom education, The web page offers a list of contacts for state offices and programs as well as a monthly feature article highlighting recent activities.

Directory of Environmental Programs http://conbio.rice.edu/cnie/dep/   Part of the Committee for the National Institute for the Environment (CNIE) website at Rice University, the Directory is a clearinghouse for information on environmental programs at colleges and universities. It serves students seeking programs that match their academic needs, faculty and administration seeking assistance starting or improving their programs, and employers seeking programs that provide appropriate training for current and prospective employees. Browse the entire directory or search by subject, school, location, or degree. This site also offers access to the companion directory, "Academic Programs in Conservation Biology."

Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe  http://www.feee.org/    The Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe (FEEE) was established in 1981 to both raise awareness of environmental issues and to effect change through education. FEEE sponsors numerous programs, such as the European Blue Flag program, in which beaches and marinas are permitted to fly the respected blue flag when they meet certain criteria for environmental quality. The Eco-Schools is a flexible way to offer environmental education through classroom study as well as applying it to the day-to-day running of schools. It also encourages environmental responsibility both at home and in the wider community. The Young Reporters for the Environment program encourages students to report on different aspects of their chosen topic.

World Resource Institute - Environmental Education  http://www.wri.org/enved/    World Resources Institute (WRI) is committed to "mov[ing] human society to live in ways that protect Earth's environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations." Part of that mission involves education. WRI sponsors Business-Environment Learning and Leadership Program (BELL), in which MBA students learn of the environmental impact the business world can have, and how to  operate "green" businesses. WRI also sponsors a program called Building Biodiversity Awareness in primary and secondary schools, which puts children out in the field to learn environmental basics first-hand. The site also offers access to a database tool named DataScape, which helps students to explore environmental data and guides them through the process of recording and using a large variety of data.
