Focus on individual rights: Liberty! Equality! Fraternity!
Avoid using the state
But … maybe the state can be used for reform
Don’t’ Change much; the way things are is pretty good
Defend Tradition
Authority!
Hierarchy!
Obedience!
Justify class privilege (God’s will? Nature’s way?)
Oppose democracy (chaotic; inefficient)
Don’t change anything – or even – go backward in time!
Use violence to advocate conservative agenda:
Authority (anti-Democracy)
Hierarchy (some are better than others)
Obedience (instant obedience is morally right)
Increasing stress on RACE (some are better than others; some are naturally inferior; the superior should rule)
