The Latin American nations were colonies of Spain and Portugal for well over THREE HUNDRED years.  What habits, ideas, attitudes, and values evolved over that long period?  Consider, for instance, politics.  Keen provides us with seven brief selections that provide snapshots of political life in Latin America during the colonial era. 

First – be sure you know what’s in each reading.

Second – (thinking critically), start searching for patterns.  What 3-4 main themes do you identify in this evidence?  Specify the theme, and indicate where in the readings you find examples of this theme.
