QUESTIONS

  1. Corrigan & Hudson write that “certain theological convictions had definite political implications” (106).  Develop this theme a bit.  WHICH theological convictions had WHAT political implications?
  2. “Separation of Church & State” is often described as one of the key accomplishments of the American Revolution.  Why was the idea so controversial?  What was its affect on religion?  Is the idea still controversial today?
  3. The American Revolution meant “liberty!” – for some.  Many, though not all, African-Americans remained in bondage.  How did the Great Awakening affect them?  How did religion complicate the whole issue of slavery?
