The English major includes a core of historically oriented survey courses, a capstone course in literary criticism, plus two upper level courses from literature prior to 1800, one course from the 19th century, and two modern courses. Majors may elect to focus on the Literature Track (2 additional upper level literature courses) or the Writing Track (3 courses in creative writing). The requirements for the B.A. degree with a major in English are as follows:

Prerequisites. Two courses chosen from English 200, 210, 220 or 230 should be completed before enrolling in any English courses numbered 300 or above. Special consideration will be given, in certain cases, to non-English majors who desire to take courses numbered 300 or above.
