About Honors

The Honors Program at Queens University of Charlotte provides a high degree of freedom and individual challenge for academically talented and motivated students.  To participate in the Honors Program, a student must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 hours and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher.  Students with grades of incomplete are ineligible for the program.

In the Honors Program, students have many opportunities to engage in advanced intellectual activities.  In a student's freshman and sophomore years, he or she will take a series of seminars designed to expose them to a wide range of intellectual ideas.  In a student's junior year, he or she will do Directed Reading and Directed Study projects, which are designed to help them in the process of selecting an area of study for their Honors Thesis.  In a student's senior year, he or she will prepare and defend an Honors Thesis, an independent, creative project that the student will complete under the direction of a faculty mentor.  Upon successful completion of the Honors Thesis, the student will graduate with Honors and the phrase "With Honors Thesis" will be printed on their diploma.

In addition to these academic pursuits, active participation in the Honors Program allows a student to take advantage of a wide range of activities, including cultural events in Charlotte, special receptions for freshmen and seniors, intellectual retreats, guest speakers, and special trips.  Honors students are also eligible for two special awards:

1.  The Honors Student of the Year---which goes to the Honors

student or students that have done the most outstanding work

in Honors courses and projects in a given year

2.  The Director's Award for Outstanding Thesis---which goes to

the Best Honors Thesis in a given year
